Purpose
The purpose of the Parent School Council (PSC) is to
support the mission of St. Joseph School: Assisting parents in the spiritual,
social and intellectual development of their children in an atmosphere
consistent with the moral values and Catholic teachings of our faith so
that children are encouraged to become life-long learners and productive,
Christian citizens.
The Council serves as a link between parents and
school, contributes financial support and provides feedback to the school
administrator. In support of St. Joseph School, the PSC carries out or
assists with a variety of activities throughout the year, contributing in
many ways to the education our children receive.
Budget
The PSC establishes its budget annually. Revenues and
expenses are closely matched with minimal net profit (approximately $500)
remaining to cover unplanned expenses and provide for a small financial
cushion. The primary revenue sources include the St. Joe fall carnival
and raffle and the Mint City 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Together,
these two events generate nearly 90% of the over $37,000 spent each year
on things such as playground supervision, special facility maintenance
and upgrades, classroom supplies and assemblies, as well as teacher/staff
development, stipends and lunches, and many other items that enhance
student experiences and teacher opportunities beyond what is allowed for
by the standard school budget and tuition payments.
Volunteer
Expectation
The Parent School Council and many, many school
functions are possible because of volunteer efforts of parents and those in
our school community. All parents are strongly encouraged to participate
in some of the many and varied opportunities for involvement. Parent
participation not only supports the fundraising and daily activities of
the school, but also enriches the school environment and provides a
tremendous example of service to our children. As an active member of the
school community, you are asked to share your time and God given talents!
No matter who you are, there are activities to suit
your style and time constraints. Many opportunities to volunteer are
presented at Walk-through before school starts each fall. Be sure to take
a moment to sign up, or let the school office know how you would like to
help.
