Under New Business:  E.   Art Fair at First Sunday Coffee

Treasurers Report:  Denice Fedewa distributed the Treasurer’s Report. A question was raised regarding the varying amount paid for playground supervision. It was explained that this figure fluctuated as a result of conference days off school and some volunteer time given to the position. It was clarified that the amount utilized for the teacher’s Christmas gifts was $100 for Full-Time (15), $50 for Part-Time (2) and $25 for other paid positions (10). A motion was made by Sheryl Middleton to approve treasurer’s report as presented. It was seconded by Dawn Lawless. MPC

OLD BUSINESS

  1. Carnival
    1. Photo Booth – Discussion tabled until February meeting.
    2. Survey – Discussion tabled until February meeting

  1. St. Joe Jots – Next Publication Date / Items
    1. The next publication will be out by 1/25.
    2. Possible items for inclusion were:  boy’s basketball (website), Catholic Schools Week events and schedule, 6th grade trip to the Cathedral, Schwan’s Fund Raiser deadline, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, and Assemblies.

  1. Assemblies
    1. The bullying assembly and the associated evening parent meeting are scheduled and classroom teaching is also underway. A grant was obtained to cover the cost of the assembly, so no PSC funds need to be used on this activity leaving resources for other events.
    2. The next assembly will be in March with author Janet Sinke. The assembly will focus around lessons from her book “Priscilla Day”. The themes of the assembly will be diversity and inclusion, specifically “how to treat each other” and that “differences are OK”. The illustrator of the book will also be at the day long assembly that provides smaller group (classroom) level discussions as well as a broader school assembly. The council approved use of the budgeted assembly funds for this event. It was also noted that because of Mrs. Sinke’s ties to the St. Joe community, there are St. Joe students singing on the CD associated with the book, and that copies of the book will be made available to the students at a reduced price (40% off) in coordination with the event.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Catholic Schools Week (Sunday, January 27 – Saturday, February 2, 2008)

    1. Sunday mass kick-off

Catholic Schools Week will officially kick-off on Sunday, January 27 with the 10:00 Children’s Mass.

    1. Spirit Day – Cake & Ice Cream treat

There was discussion on which day was best for the Spirit Day and Cake & Ice Cream treat day. Lisa Suidgeest will be checking classroom schedules and working with Mrs. Schultheiss to pick a day. Lisa will also get workers and the ice cream for the treat day.

There was discussion of having the Spirit Day on one day and the Cake & Ice Cream treat day on different days to generate more events for the students during the week. The potential of adding a Popcorn/Movie event and a Grandparent’s Open House during Catholic Schools week was also discussed.

    1. Teacher Appreciation Luncheon (Thursday, Jan 31st)

Stephanie Padgett will be coordinating the event again for 2008. She has asked for an assistant that would be willing to take over for 2009 forward. Suggested individuals will be contacted to see if they are interested. Workers are needed for the event – 2 to serve food and 6 to watch classrooms for teachers during the luncheon. A volunteer sheet was sent around and Bridgette will work with Stephanie to get the remaining workers.

    1. Parent’s Night Out (Saturday, Feb 2nd)

The kids can’t wait!!

  1. Schwan’s Fundraiser (January 16 - 31)

Chris Deliso is coordinating. The information went home with the student’s on Wednesday, January 16. Orders are due back to school by January 31.

  1. Fitch Photo Fundraiser (Spring)

There was an offer from John Fitch to come into the school and take student’s photos, with alternative backgrounds and photo products available as a possible Spring Fundraiser. The Parent School Council was not interested in the event as a Fundraiser, but there was interest by some parents in making the spring photo offer available to interested families. Tomi Ann will make a determination about whether to allow Fitch to come in during the spring for this purpose.

  1. Spring Picnic Bash Date

May 9 was recommended as the date for the Spring Picnic Bash.

  1. Art Fair at First Sunday Coffee

There was a recommendation to put St. Joe student’s art projects on display during the first Sunday coffee at the church. Sheryl Middleton offered to chair a committee to research what supplies would be needed and how many worker’s would be required to carry out the event. She will report back at the February meeting. Discussions included the advantages of promoting the school and the students. Concerns included the logistics of moving, sometimes fragile, art projects and the time to put them up and take them back down.

Principal’s Report

Tomi Ann Schultheiss commented on the bullying seminar, lessons and events that are taking place in January.

Mrs. Page Hunter thanked the Parent School Council for everything they do.

Bridgette reminded the council that we need to identify a committee at the next meeting to review and present for approval the council’s bylaws.

A motion was made by Cheryl Nodarse to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Dawn Lawless. MPC

The meeting was adjourned with the Hail Mary at 7:50.
