OLD BUSINESS
A. March is Reading Month
The Parent School Council approved a proposal (via email consensus) from Mrs. Besinger to cover a speaker for March is Reading Month in the amount of $350.
B. Survey
The proposed survey drafted by the Survey Committee was distributed and discussed. Dawn Lawless shared the results of her research on other school’s volunteerism programs. Tomi Ann Schultheiss shared with the group her knowledge of how paying for volunteerism can have IRS tax implications for the school. Items added/amended on the survey from team discussion included: adding the TRIP program to the volunteerism question, clarification of the volunteerism question, adding a line to obtain workers for the Spring Musical, the addition of an optional NAME: line on the survey and suggestions for best printing style for ease in filling it out and returning it. It was noted that the Survey Committee no longer felt that additional parent volunteers would be needed to compile survey results. The survey will be brought back to the Council for final approval in the April meeting.
C. Spring Picnic Bash
The date for the Picnic Bash is May 9, 2008. Lisa Suidgeest will coordinate the event and obtain needed supplies and workers. Krista Lehner will develop a participative event for the Spring Picnic Bash. Kerri Bendele will acquire prizes to be used in the event.
D. Bylaws Committee
The proposed bylaws were distributed and discussed. A modification to the Catholic Schools Week section was recommended to state that the committee would “promote the designated theme”. The Public Relations sub-committee was added under the Carnival Committee. The bylaws will be submitted for Council approval in April.
E. St Joe Jots
Ideas for inclusion in the next Jots included: Donna Besinger’s Library speaker, TRIP program, Spring Picnic Bash, the PSC Survey and the Priscilla Assembly.
F. “1st Sunday” Art Fair
The last Art Fair took about 2 hours to set-up. There were no attendees on Saturday, leading to the discussion that the Art Fair will probably be limited to 1st Sunday masses. Future “art” may actually include writing and poetry selections. Lisa Suidgeest, Janelle Paksi, Sara Nurenberg and Mari Jo Eisler volunteered to assist with the May Art Fair.
NEW BUSINESS
A. 6th grade graduation
As 5th grade representative, Krista Hallead will coordinate the 6th grade graduation celebration. The budgeted amount is $200. There are 38 6th graders.
B. Kindergarten Parent Packets & Web Updating
Bridgette Voisinet is developing a graph of Parent School Council events and opportunities for the Kindergarten parents. There were also suggestions discussed for improving next year’s kindergarten walk thru packets. Tomi Ann Schultheiss agreed to take those suggestions back to the teaching staff for discussion. There was also a discussion of a school store where students could purchase St. Joe supplies, such as clothing, folders, and pencils.
Bridgette Voisinet is working on updating the Parent School Council info on the St. Joe Website. Deb Kohagen will be submitting the prior Parent School Council minutes to Renee Irrer for publication on the St. Joe Website. All future minutes will also be emailed to Renee once they are approved by the Parent School Council.
Principal’s Report
The council recognized Tomi Ann Schultheiss for her words of wisdom/perspective in the latest St. Joe newsletter.
Teachers Report
Amber Carn/Sarah Presocki thanked the council on behalf of Donna Besinger for approving her request.
Amber Carn stated a need for calculators for the 5th grade students. There are funds already in the budget for such expenses and Amber was going to proceed with their acquisition and submit receipts to Denice Schultheiss for reimbursement.
There was clarification that the next Parent School Council meeting is April 14.
A motion was made by Deb Kohagen to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Janelle Paksi. MPC
The meeting was adjourned with the Hail Mary at 8:10.
Respectfully Submitted,
Deb Kohagen, Secretary
