ST. JOSEPH PARENT SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES

October 8, 2007

Call to Order

President, Bridgette Voisinet called the meeting to order at 6:34 with the Our Father

 

Approval of the Minutes

A correction was made to the spelling of Laura Skriba’s name. A correction was made to the Kindergarten and At-Large Representatives. Sheryl Middleton is the Kindergarten representative, Krista Lehner is an at-large representative. A motion was made by Cheryl Nodarse to approve the minutes as corrected; it was seconded by Sheryl Middleton.  MPC

 

Additions to the Agenda

Two items were added to the agenda in the New Business section:

B.                 Slushy Machine – Cheryl Nodarse

C.                 Speaker on Bullying – Tomi Ann Schultheiss

 

Treasurers Report

Denice Fedewa distributed the financial report. She commented that all expenses were as budgeted. Carnival expenses were the majority of incoming items. A motion was made by Cheryl Nodarse to approve the treasurer’s report as presented; it was seconded by Angi Bunn. MPC

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

  1. St. Joe Jots

Angi Bunn will assist Teresa Kaczmarek with the October production of the St. Joe Jots newsletter. Ideas for the publication included: Carnival related items, TRIP/Box tops, 6th grade Eagle Village and girls’ basketball results.

 

  1. Carnival

1.                  Large Money Raffle – Sheryl Middleton reported that tickets returned were below last years returns at this point, but that it is still very early. Ideas were discussed to possibly enhance next year’s ticket sales.

 

2.                  Mini-Raffle - Bridgette Voisinet thanked Keri Bendele for her assistance in obtaining raffle prizes. She discussed some of the prizes, shared the flyer and discussed selling tickets after all masses during the weekend of October 27th/28th. Volunteers were recruited to assist with ticket sales.

 

3.                  Public Relations – Teresa Kaczmarek reported that the carnival information will be shown on Channel 3; it will also be in the church bulletin the weekend of October 20th/21st and a press release will be sent to the Clinton County News and the Lansing State Journal. 

 

4.                  Kitchen – Lisa Suidgeest reported that she is working on a donation of bottled water. Baked potatoes are being added to the menu. Sales will be tracked to determine if this new item should be continued in future years.

 

5.                  Prizes – Krista Hallead reported that all prizes are in and ready to go. 

 

6.                  Games – Lisa Suidgeest reported on the 5 new games, and changes in some game locations. She asked for and received a few volunteers to call carnival workers and remind them of the shift they signed up to work. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

A.         Chuck E. Cheese / Max & Erma’s Fundraising Opportunities

Various fundraising opportunities were discussed. Bridgette Voisinet will work with Robin Grinnell to acquire additional information about some of them and report back at a future meeting.

 

            B.        Slushy Machine

Cheryl Nodarse reported that Gateway has a slushy machine that they are willing to rent out should we find ourselves in need of one for any upcoming events.

 

C.        Speaker on Bullying

Tomi Ann Schultheiss asked the council for approval to pay for the services of a reputable speaker on the subject of bullying. She will be applying for a grant, but wanted the support of the council should grant funding not come through. A motion was made by Sheryl Middleton to approve payment of speaker fees if the grant fails; it was seconded by Teresa Kaczmarek. MPC

 

Principal’s Report

 

Tomi Ann Schultheiss thanked the council for purchase of $25 gas cards to assist parents that will drive students to Eagle Village, and also for support of the speaker on bullying. She commended the group for their continual support of, and involvement in the school.

 

Teachers Report

Mrs. Zielinski thanked the council for everything they do. 

 

 

The meeting was adjourned with the Hail Mary at 7:52 pm. A motion was made by Deb Kohagen to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded by Denice Fedewa. MPC
